Austin Place...1960


This house was bought by Benny Berkowitz for his wife, Rose.
Rose and Benny's daughter, Etta Temerson, and her husband
spent summers there from the 1940's until 1964
with their children, Irene Temerson Kasper
and Marshall Russ Temerson.
The house on Waldorf in the background
belonged to Gussie Smith.
Denise and Jim Sullivan live there today.



In this photo of the Berkowitz house
the feed store building is the tall one on the left
and Wilson's Bus Garage is on the right.
Austin Place is named Cunes Road today.



1961
Roxie (Herbert Depoid) was P.V. Mentnech's friend
and an entertainer who stayed at the Columbia Hotel.
He was a jokester, prankster and storyteller.
He could whistle like a policeman with only his mouth.

Perk, a Life Member of the Hurleyville Fire Department,
was Grand Marshall of the parade that
celebrated the 75th Anniversary of the
Hurleyville Fire Department.
Perk and Florence owned Perk's Market on Main Street.

2 signs at the entrance to the Rails to Trails on Main Street
and the signs at the planters at the top of Columbia Hill,
at the 4 corners by Lochmor Golf Course and
at the intersection of Brophy and Brickman Roads.
